Laika & Kaiya Project
Laika & Kaiya is a space adventure story loosely based off the historical figure, Laika, who was the first dog to orbit earth. In the original record, the Cosmonaut died of a heart attack in her ship, Sputnik II, however, in this retelling, Laika’s ship is thrown off course into the depths of space. She is found by rogue aliens and sold off to the highest bidder as a rare specimen at a black market auction.
She was bought by scientists who experimented on her and rewrote her DNA, making her physical attributes more humanoid and her mind more sentient. From the depths of her cage, she learns many things from her captors like language, alien history and how to use their machinery. Laika uses their hubris to her advantage as they only view her as a mongrel and is able to escape and destroy their lab.
Laika, being an extremely intelligent creature now, learns and explores the new galaxies around her. Later, she somehow becomes a captain of a pirate crew who raids ships that are involved in the black market and ruins their business. That is until one day, in the hull of one of those scummy ships, Laika finds a human child named Kaiya who was kidnapped from a place Laika once called home: Earth.
